1 Cylinder head working conditions and requirements
The Cummins Cylinder Heads are exposed to the mechanical forces caused by the gas forces and the tightening of the cylinder head bolts, and they are also subjected to high thermal loads due to contact with the hot gas. In order to ensure a good seal of the Cummins 6BT Cylinder Block, the cylinder head can neither be damaged nor deformed. For this reason, the cylinder head should have sufficient strength and rigidity. In order to make the temperature distribution of the cylinder head as uniform as possible and to avoid hot cracks between the intake and exhaust valve seats, the cylinder head should be well cooled.
2. Cylinder head material
Cylinder heads are generally cast from high-quality grey cast iron or alloy cast iron, while aluminum alloy cylinder heads are used in gasoline engines used in cars.
3. Cylinder head structure
The cylinder head is a complex box-shaped part. It is processed with intake and exhaust valve seat holes, valve guide holes, spark plug mounting holes (gasoline engine) or injector mounting holes (diesel engine). Water jackets, intake and exhaust passages and a part of the combustion or combustion chamber are also cast in the cylinder head. If the camshaft is mounted on the cylinder head, the cylinder head is also machined with cam bearing holes or cam bearing housings and its lubricating oil channels.
The cylinder head of the water-cooled engine has three types of structure: monolithic, block and monolithic. In a multi-cylinder engine, where all cylinders share a cylinder head, the cylinder head is said to be an integral cylinder head; if there is one cover per cylinder or three cylinders and one cover, the cylinder head is a block type cylinder head; if One cylinder head is a single cylinder head. Air-cooled engines are single cylinder heads.
